Eloquent…effective…persuasive…insightful…

These words describe home schooled students that are trained in speech and debate.

2013-2014 Rainmakers Speech & Debate

Pre-Season Informational Meeting

Monday evening, May 20th, 7:00 pm

 New Life Church, River Falls

1984 McKillican Street, West Linn

Learn about plans for next year’s speech and debate clubs!

Debate offers both an academic challenge and an opportunity to sharpen valuable life-skills. Students learn through logic and rhetoric training, political science and economic study, and they gain a knowledge of government and international affairs. They also improve their public speaking and presentation, note-taking and organization, as well as research and writing skills. Students sharpen one another and encourage each other toward excellence as they participate in friendly Christ-centered competition.

Speech events include platform speeches (Biographical Narrative, Persuasive, and Illustrated Oratory), interpretive speeches (Humorous, Duo, Open, and Original) and limited preparation events (Apologetics, Impromptu, Extemporaneous/current events).

Competitive speech and debate is offered to home schooled students, ages 12 to 18. If your participation in a speech or debate club next year is even a possibility, I encourage you to come! Your attendance will not obligate you in any way. The meeting will help to inform your decision and will allow the coaches and club leaders to make plans to accommodate the potential growth for next year.

I hope to see you there!

Rainmakers Speech and Debate Club is affiliated with the National Christian Forensics and Communications Association. The NCFCA believes that formal speech and debate can provide a means for home schooled students to learn and exercise analytical and oratorical skills, addressing life issues from a Biblical worldview in a manner that glorifies God.
